Urban Erosion and Sediment Control

Our trained specialists review sediment and erosion control plans and small pond designs. They participate on Howard County's weekly Subdivision Review Committee with other state and local county agencies.

In addition to those items mandated by state statute, the Howard SCD reviews and comments on plans which disturb highly sensitive areas, such as steep slopes, forests, floodplains, streams, wetlands and any associated buffers. Howard County cites these areas as receiving the greatest protection, within it's General Plan, County Code, and Subdivision Regulations, in order to restore and maintain a healthy ecosystem. This includes the unique role the Howard SCD has in management (temporary) of stormwater for construction sites to minimize impacts during development.
